Tech Sec update mid May 2022

Hello again from your Technical Secretary.

This is a first  ‘open blog’ for visitors to the updated site.

I you are visiting us for the first time, then Welcome!  You will find general information about the Society under the Home Page tab.

Access

If you would like to be kept informed by email about upcoming events, new issues of the News Notes, or new materials added to the site, you will need to register with us. We will keep you updated on material that is available to visitors and those registered with us as well as new material that members can get at.

For access to the full pdf News Notes, and much technical material you will need to apply for membership. It is not expensive in today’s world to be a member, and your presence will be valued.

This blog and events announcements, together with a core package of technical information (resources listings and links, external articles, key statistics of a selection of hovercraft, SES, and Air Cushion Equipment, and a selection of basic technical papers) will stay open to all visitors.

Members will (given time!) soon be able to access papers from previous Conferences held by THS.

Videos and Presentations

One part of our site that we plan to keep open is the general video section. Here we will give  links to a collection of open YouTube videos of craft of all sizes and types so they are easy to get at rather than getting lost in the plethora of material.

If you are indeed new to Hovercraft and Air Cushion Technology to take a look at some of these videos. There are a range from those just a few minutes long to hour long professional programmes. You will see key info by the links.

Currently presentations made to THS are held on Zoom in the cloud. Due to limited storage capacity it is planned to move these to a THS YouTube channel in the near future. Access details for our video presentations will be under the Members Library tab.

This series is planned to grow in the next few years so as to become a resource for engineers and designers, as well as for general interest and in a way recording ‘history’. The technology has come a long way in the last half century and has much more to offer in the world of transportation.

At THS we are proud to have support from a number of companies involved with Air Cushion Technology, and hope to widen this support in the next few years. You will see their logos at the base of the Home page, with links to profile pages, a quick way to get up to speed with them.

Blog Updates

Depending on pressure of other work, your TechSec will aim to write a short piece in this open blog every week or so. I will include links for items of interest and give a few thoughts at times on technical options. There are many ways to configure and ACV or SES, considering much more than simply the cushion or skirt. If you our visitor or member have ideas you are willing to share, the technology could easily benefit, so don’t be shy, but also be prepared to be challenged! You can contact us via the emails on the contact page.

Please do note though, that THS is a Society of Engineers and the communications we are willing to receive are related to Air Cushion Technology. The Society and its members have no interest in receiving general sales messages.

Looking forward to connecting,

Alan Bliault
